This year, we have expanded the O'Brien House Essay Contest to include two populations: one for high school students and one for adults currently participating in addiction recovery in the state of Louisiana.
The 2018 O'Brien House Essay Contest deadline for submissions is September 1st, 2018. See the Rules section of this website for guidelines for submission. Below is the topic for this year's contest:
Sharing your personal story about addiction helps to heal both your wounds and the wounds of others. Please answer each of the questions below in your essay.
-How has addiction or alcoholism touched you personally? If you, a family member, or friend has experienced recovery, how was it initiated and how has it impacted your life?
-What are the effects of addiction and alcoholism on your family, your school, and your local community?
-Do you have any specific ideas about how the national effects of addiction might be remedied?
-What do you think is the greatest misperception about addiction that exists today in American society and why?
2018 High School Contest Prizes:
1st Place = New PC or Macbook Pro for Essay Writer + $1000 to school
2nd Place = $500 to Essay Writer + $500 to school
3rd Place = $250 to Essay Writer + $250 to school
2018 Recovery Contest Prizes:
1st Place = New PC or Macbook Pro for Essay Writer + $250 cash
2nd Place = $500 cash
